Angus & Julia Stone are Rad.

So, these guys are another of those brother-sister duos, as you may have guessed from their names. Hailing from the small town of Sydney, Australia, their latest album Down the Way has already peaked at #1 on the Australian Charts and won 'album of the year' and 'best adult alternative album' at the 2010 ARIA awards. And if that wasn't enough, the album's lead single Big Jet Plane won ARIA's coveted 'single of the year' award.

Their success has not been overnight, though it may seem that way. They have been around for almost 5 years now and in that time, they have travelled from Australia to the depths of America, England and even the Scottish Highlands, producing three excellent albums along the way. Their dreamy vocals and soft guitar melodies have gained them considerable worldwide following, so much so that the views on their Youtube videos now stand at well over 10 million. It is hard not to be attracted to them as people, with their hippie-like clothing and sun-damaged hair. Moreover, their songs' terrific simplicity makes it possible for almost anybody to relate to the messages they send out in their music. This is no doubt because every single one of Angus & Julia's songs is based on the real experiences of one of the duo. Big Jet Plane, for instance, is simply a sad boy-meets-girl scenario. The boy wants to 'take her for a ride on a big jet plane', but he can't. Whilst one hopes there isn't a certain euphemistic aspect to the chorus, one also can't help but feel a certain empathy for the broken-hearted Angus, who sings his lines with genuine emotion. And as we all know, empathy sells records (Think Plain White Ts, think James Blunt).

Angus & Julia will make you want it to be summer again. Just a Boy is typical of their effortlessly catchy love songs. Have a listen. And then listen again.
